I originally started this blog with the intent of focusing on the animals that were involved in the Ancient Roman games. As I started to research the topic of gladiators and the games, my view point started to change. I wanted to focus more on the gladiators themselves. This was a result of discovering how interesting gladiators were and how much controversy surrounds them. There are different viewpoints that exist between scholars on what actually went on in the ancient Roman games. This truly fascinated me, and I want to convey my opinions to the readers as well as present information for them to look at and base their own opinions on the subject. Some of the main points that will be discussed in this blog are who the gladiators were and what they did as well as what was required of them. I will also dive into the debate into the idea of slave gladiators vs. volunteer gladiators among scholars and to the question as to the death of gladiators. Did the events always result in death?
